A dog is a friend of man. This fact has been verified by many, many centuries, and therefore it is today an axiom. It would seem that we know everything about the dog, because we - Humans decided that it will be our friend, servant, laboratory rat, in the end. We have created hundreds of breeds, agreeing only with our own wishes - we want a riding horse that can work in inhuman conditions, we take a husky, a malamute, etc. Do we want to go hunting? Basically, you can take the same huskies, or you can compose a bunch of spaniels, hounds or terriers. To play the adrenaline rush, we will invent fighting monsters, and, having an irresistible craving for aesthetics, we will surround ourselves with couch pussies or naked exotics.

In general, every sneeze has its own handkerchief. But there are many more reasons for creating a new breed. Well, for example, guides, rescuers, customs officers, dogs of certain breeds are fluent in these professions. But someone has to protect the zones. It's good for them there, in the West - they have a milder climate and fewer zones. What should we do? No matter how two-thirds of the country - the wild North and almost all of this territory is developed by convicts. And there is no one to protect them.

It is very regrettable that this very fact - a large number of camps in a sad memorable time in extreme climatic conditions and the need to protect them, was the main reason for the invention of a unique, in my amateurish opinion, dog - the Russian Black Terrier. But every cloud has a silver lining. Apparently, when creating the breed, a kind angel stood behind its authors and directed their actions with his wise and loving hand. As a result of the joint work of the human mind and the highest Conduct, a Dog, stunning in its exterior and range of user qualities, has turned out.

Naturally, I read everything about the breed that comes to hand. And opinions of a wide variety of emotional coloring come to hand. Fans of the breed unanimously shout that the black terrier is like a well-targeted Kalashnikov assault rifle, more critical voices argue that in pursuit of the exterior, the breeders have to some extent sacrificed the psyche of the dog, and there are those who speak of the blackie as a ferocious uncontrollable animal ... Probably, all these judgments have a right to exist. In turn, I would like to tell you about some of the character traits of the Russian Black Terrier.

During a short time of living together with the blackie, our family was not a bit disappointed in the chosen breed. We do not just love our dogs, we sincerely and deeply respect them. Agree that not every breed can achieve this. In a way, the blackies are really extraordinary dogs - they are reckless, but not intrusive, active, but controlled, balanced, but not phlegmatic. Black Terrier will suit absolutely any person with any temperament and lifestyle, provided that you are able to build partnerships based on the unshakable authority of a person, but not at the level of "I am the boss, you are a fool." With a blackie, such a number will not work, he will very quickly understand what you really are. Blackie is really an easy-to-train dog, but he must clearly understand the need for one or another command. You are unlikely to be able to make a circus dog out of your dog. Although I was told about this little blackie, with which an ordinary clothespin was attached to the ear, and when the dog tried to pull it off with its paw, they said: - "Ashamed, ashamed of the dog."

Now as soon as someone utters the word "ashamed", the dog begins to rub his ear with his paw. Maybe it looks comical, but somehow I feel sorry for this dog.

With classy training, the brt perform very well in agility competitions, but you cannot approach the training of a black terrier with the same requirements as for a German shepherd. brt gladly overcome the obstacle course, but I cannot send the dog to the same projectile several times in a row - brt do not see the need for it. They come up and lie down at their feet, saying with all their appearance: “Well, that's it, dear, we have amused your vanity, it's time to know the honor. Our main job is to protect you, and that's what we will do. " And they do this job superbly. In short, the blackie is very easy to train, provided that you can make him understand that in this situation only he can cope with the task at hand and this is absolutely necessary.


The attitude towards children is very ambiguous. brt willingly plays with children in a variety of fun games, not for a moment forgetting that he is a big and strong dog, and human cubs are not very strong. However, a dog will never allow a child to do anything with it. Our Martin does not like to hug, apparently considering it a calf's tenderness, unworthy of such a respectable dog. The children tried hard to teach him to embrace, but he invariably responded to all their attempts with an uterine roar. In the end, the children resigned themselves. And so Martin and I go to visit the house with a one-year-old child. The kid expressed a desire to get closer to a large live plush toy. With some degree of apprehension, we allowed the boy to pet the dog. An inquisitive man touched the dog's ears, eyes, checked his teeth. Our Martin just instinctively screwed up his eyes, he not only did not growl, but did not even try to leave. Apparently, he felt that this baby was still quite new and did not understand anything yet, and therefore it was impossible to demand respect from him.

Brt behaves differently with dogs of other breeds. Martin does favor small dogs with his good attitude, large dogs prefer to retire when meeting with our blackie, while those who try to compete with him are put in place by the black terrier.

We now have a fairly adult Newfoundland bitch temporarily living, a creature as huge, as phlegmatic. With great pleasure she plays only with the puppy, with the older Martin they did not get in touch. brt on the first day made it clear to Nyusha who is the boss in the house. He was not at all embarrassed by the huge size of the guest, nor the more respectable age, nor the fact that she was a lady. As a real owner, he explained the rules of conduct on his territory, and you cannot deny him this right.

That's how he is, our brt - smart and kind, brave and ruthless towards opponents, funny and reliable. The true potential of the Black Terrier, I think, has not yet been revealed - this is a very young breed, but I am just sure that its potential is enormous and the remarks about the degradation of the breed are at least not ethical. If in the litters there are individuals with a character not typical for the breed as a whole, then it is not the fault of the black terrier, but primarily of breeders who let weak and nervous dogs into breeding.

When we are met with dogs on the street, first of all they ask: - What is this breed? The next question: - How much do they eat? Then they are interested in his behavior at home in general and his attitude towards children in particular. M. Gerasimova and E.
